Learn to Row: Sweep Rowing
Learn to Sweep Row
What is sweep rowing? Good question. This is rowing in boats called "shells," with only one oar per person. The big shells - the ones you really notice - are called "eights," because they have eight rowers with one oar each, alternating on either side of the boat.
Rowing is the ultimate team sport because you have to learn to follow your teammates' every movement (particularly the person in front of you). In this ten-session class, you'll learn how to handle the shells (lifting them, carrying them, getting them in and out of the water), safety and basic rowing technique.
Once you successfully complete this course, you are then eligible to become a member and continue rowing in the club.
Membership in OAR
includes access to coached practices from mid-February through mid-November, plus access to club boats anytime for rowing by yourself or with others in a variety of boats - during daylight hours!
